THE MOST PRACTICAL; AGREEING WITH SCIENCE
Buddhism, once the "lingo" is distilled, is the most practical set of philosophical/psychological principles.
Buddhism and Western science (neuroscience) agree.
Though there are many meetings, the meetings organized by the Mind And Life Institute particularly stand out. In those meetings, brain scientists, psychologists, and other highly trained specialists meet with the Dalai Lama and other Buddhists to discuss the latest scientific findings and the applications suggested by them.
Though referred to in many books, I prefer one written by Daniel Goleman, famed for his book "Emotional Intelligence," entitled, of all things, "Destructive Emotions". It carries us through the experiences and content of one of the great meetings.
WHICH ONES SHOULD BE READ?
One of the questions, as always, is which books and how many books should be read, as one's time is a precious commodity not to be squandered in ill-directed efforts. So I attempt to answer that for the various levels of interest that one might be at. For now, subject to upgrading, I'll call those levels of interest: Some, Medium, High.

The Joy Of Living, Unlocking The Secret and Science of Happiness, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. Very understandable, refers to the Mind And Life Institute meetings also.
Awakening The Buddha Within, Tibetan Wisdom For The Western World, Lama Surya Das - A westerner who chose to follow this path. Very practical and illuminating.
