THERE IS NO REALITY IN “RIGHT/WRONG” OR “GOOD/BAD” JUDGMENTS.
By "judgment" here I mean making judgments as to value and importance in a way that lacks tolerance, compassion and objectivity. This is the use related to being "pejorative", which means disparaging or derogatory. Objective means "independent of the mind, real or actual" and without bias or prejudice. ''
So "judgment" itself is just a function, neither bad nor good in and of itself. We either have potentially super great "objective judgment" or a disabling, harmful, or impotent "unobjective judgment", which is disparaging or derogatory.
Put a check mark on each line where you agree:
___ Most of what is in the mind are "thoughts" about things and are not the
things themselves.
___ Therefore, what is in the mind can vary, even about the same thing.
___ People can think differently and feel differently than other people about
the same identical thing, therefore what we think is strictly something
__ What we make up is not "the truth", until it is absolutely verified to be so.
__ Until then, we would be foolish to rely on it as if it were absolutely true.
___ The only thing that exists in the real world is results (things that happen).
The rest of what occurs is in the mind, that which we imagine.
The term "in existence" means something that is in the real world, not in the imagination or just the mind.
A thought is real only to the extent it exists in neurons and patterns.
Feelings are "real" because they are sensations showing up in the physical body. The meaning we make of something is "made up" and is the source of the feelings created through a physical system of electrobiochemicalmechanical machines that cause them to happen. Of course, to understand this fully, you'll have to go into how things work in the body/brain, which gets us into an extensive, super worthwhile, super necessary discussion that is essential to one's understanding and operation in one's life.
WHAT IS "WORKABILITY"?
Definition: Working = Creating results that work for your benefit. It is strictly about real, existing in the world positive results. Negative results are, of course, not from workability.
WOULD YOU AGREE?
__ Workability (or non-workability) is the only reality.
The process of how something occurs looks like this:
Something occurs --> We make up something about it, judge it, but...
What we make up about something is not necessarily the truth and if it does not align with the truth it can be harmful. (Duh! Of course!)
We need to be careful about what we believe and realize the following:
___ Everybody does the best they can at the time given the current limits of
their awareness. This is a “mathematical certainty”, a truth, a truism.
___ Nobody is wrong or bad for simply doing the best they can given that
what they know may be missing something.
___ Yes, they could do better if they knew better (were more aware)
___ They simply get a result (a "what is") and it works or not in the real world
of workability.
___ A judgment is something that is only a viewpoint created in the mind. It
doesn't exist in reality (out there), so it isn't actual (it's only a "made-up").
WHAT IS "GOOD"?
What is good? Compared to what?
Good is a value judgment comparing something to "bad".
Such a concept does not exist in the real world. It is only a fiction we make up and then a system around it that goes on inside the imagination of our brain.
And we made up the game of good and bad, first in order to distinguish "what works" and then we used the term to manipulate and control. As a child, you were dependent on another person for survival, so you shaped up (or tried to) whenever they said you were "bad", and we soon started to seek to be called "good."
Now that you are not a child, you are no longer controlled by "good" or "bad" labelling, nor do you need to use them, as you no longer seek to falsely control others.
HOW VALID IS IT?
There is no such thing as "good" or "bad", they are just "make-ups". They didn't exist before mankind existed and created them, so they're just fabrications.
[The criteria of "what works" has existed forever. Things just work or they don't work (to achieve the desired result).]
Back into the cultural trap, we notice that we're also dealing with a very low form of Einstein's Theory Of Relativity? Everything is relative.
We tend to compare ourselves to that which we think is "good enough" - which is usually something beyond where we are (or it wouldn't be a problem!).
Therefore, it is a set up for us to fall short and to be unhappy.
Barksdale had it right when he said that there is no good or bad and that "we simply our doing the best we can at the time given the limits of our awareness at that time. We are not the problem (as we are capable humans); it is the lack of awareness that is the problem. If we want to create more feel good in our lives, we simply need to add more awareness."
REMOVING THE CAGE OF SELF-JUDGMENT AND ANXIETY
In Tara Brach’s book, Radical Acceptance , she uses the term to “cage” oneself by putting up the artificial walls of self-judgment and anxiety. (See some of the “cage” statements in the appendix, with acceptance statement and empowering statements.)
Once one gets to the point of realizing that all self-judgments (right/wrong, good/bad, and I’m powerless to survive) and almost all threats are not real and are strictly fabricated as a childish way of “protecting” oneself from the concept of “non-survival,” there is nothing left to not accept.
AND BEING HUMAN MEANS...
And! Being human means…
That you will be human (amazingly enough)!
That just means that you are vulnerable to what affects humans:
Fears
Not knowing everything needed
Which means you will, at times,
Not meet some objectives (called by some “failure”)
Not do, occasionally, what was necessary for succeeding
Not keep some promises
But you best not make yourself wrong for it!
For, then, you lose your power
Do you make gravity wrong? Or is it just “what’s so”?
Well, in the same vein, being human is just a “what’s so”, and it is more than “ok” and – we can be happy about it!!!
So, remember that there is no real “right/wrong”, “good/bad”.
And, given that truth, when something occurs, we don't need to label it. We can simply say:
Observe "What is so?" (i.e. “what actually happened," free of stories)
Put it in relative perspective in life: “So what?”, and
Ask “Now what?!!” (and then just do what one can do!)
No fiddling around, no stories, just being responsible for creating what is wanted - and moving on quickly through life with alot more good results and alot less trauma or drama.
And you'll just live in a way where you will not make yourself wrong.
And if you don’t make yourself (or anybody else) wrong, you'll realize there is nothing to forgive and no reason to conjure up feeling guilt or shame.
MY OPERATING FORMULA FROM NOW ON
I will operate off of the formula discussed above, without throwing a story on it:
Something occurs --> "So what?" --> "What is so?" --> "Now what?"
MY COMMITMENT
___ I commit to doing my best to do that which works for creating
desired outcomes and for avoiding negative impacts on myself and
others. I am committed to “workability” as the key criterion for
life (and I hereby give up the labelling of right/wrong and good/bad as
criteria).
