A CENTRAL, VITAL TRUTH
A truth, one that is part of 'psychological physics', is that what you input into your mind determines a huge part of what you experience in life. If you want to experience happiness, input things that are happy-producing. If you choose to experience unhappiness or some other negative feeling, keep on inputting negative stuff.
Yes, the wolf that wins is, indeed, the one you feed, as in the famous story.
THE STORY OF "FEEDING THE GOOD WOLF"
Version 1: BamaRiver ~ Native American Wisdom
An old Grandfather said to his grandson, who came to him with anger at a friend who had done him an injustice, "Let me tell you a story. I too, at times, have felt a great hate for those that have taken so much, with no sorrow for what they do. But hate wears you down, and does not hurt your enemy. It is like taking poison and wishing your enemy would die.
"I have struggled with these feelings many times," he continued. "It is as if there are two wolves inside me. One is good and does no harm. He lives in harmony with all around him, and does not take offense when no offense was intended. He will only fight when it is right to do so, and in the right way.
"But the other wolf, ah! He is full of anger. The littlest thing will set him into a fit of temper. He fights everyone, all the time, for no reason. He cannot think because his anger and hate are so great. It is helpless anger, for his anger will change nothing.
"Sometimes, it is hard to live with these two wolves inside me, for both of them try to dominate my spirit."
The boy looked intently into his Grandfather's eyes and asked, "Which one wins, Grandfather?"
The Grandfather smiled and quietly said, "The one I feed."

INPUT 'ON PURPOSE'
If you depend on your survival, danger oriented brain to naturally contribute to your happiness, you will find yourself being a fool - an unhappy one. You must put the right part of you in charge of that function - your higher brain - where it will set a goal and then figure out what will work and set you about doing it.
That's really the point. Realize this truth and implement it, period!
IMPLEMENTING "GOOD INPUTTING"
Note that a sure sign of "bad inputting" is that you feel bad. (Duh!) So, you should use the sign and go to "good inputting", from these references and practices.
If you saw a precious child and realized the immense worth of that child and his/her life and you were in charge of him/her, would you wish to input anything but good? Wouldn't you be sure that you did nothing else?
Well, how precious is your life? Just as precious, I'm sure. And the imperative of doing positive inputs is a huge one, not to be compromised or violated.
The Reminders Notebook - The core of strength, being centered, having empowering inputs. See the section and implement some version of this for certain. It'll dramatically change your life. Consider it a "fun" and "positive" project at first, to get your notebook put together. And then enjoy the benefits for the rest of your life.
Watch inspiring, uplifting video materials. Stop watching anything other than the essential news (skipping over news that is negative and has no relevance to your life) - swear to this.
Only be around people who are positive and progressive. (See Friends.)
Revise all beliefs that result in your feeling bad, for all contain some central element that is erroneous (virtually always, guaranteed!). Input the new true belief. See, and thoroughly learn and implement the Beliefs section.
A SPECIAL NOTE
One of the key blocks to adopting what works is the false notion that we are "fixed", "we are just the way we are and there is nothing we can do about it". People believing this are experiencing an illusion and not reality. They are not in touch with who they really are. (See Who I Am, an essential understanding - and reality.)
We are not our beliefs, nor any of the things we acquire during life. They are not us. They can be shed and replaced. This is an essential truth.
Unless we are actually brain retarded, we can create being happy. See Bad Past, Good Lives, for people who have done started off with bad inputs and even depression and/or who have suffered some "bad outcome", such as becoming a paraplegic or some severe physical calamity.
Those who do not choose to change either don't believe that change is possible or they are so locked into a (false) "reason(s) why not" - including reasons why they are as they are, repeating the bad input and reinforcement of the idea that they are stuck and are a complete victim of a fixed way of being. See "This Is The Way I Am."
