THE HUNGRY PERSON SUBSTITUTE THIS FOR THAT
SATISFACTION AT A LOWER CALORIE (AND HEALTH) COST
Send me your favorite substitutions (must by relatively easy).
This is what The Hungry Girl has specialized in: finding ways to have fewer calories for what might otherwise be a disaster - but still feeling satisfied. It's not a weight loss program per se, but it will tend to lessen the weight highs.
Principles:
Fat is satisfying, so the healthy fat could be a good substitute for junk food.
Protein keeps you from getting hungry soon.
Having any more than 100 calories a day of sugar equivalents is not good for you (multiply carb grams by 4 to calculate calories).
Fiber is filling. (Stick it in your water.)
Stevia and monk fruit sweeteners are natural and healthier than artificial sweeteners.
After the first 20%, the satisfaction from eating something drops dramatically - so just eat 1/5 of the tempting stuff if you must have some! Simply impose a rule to pause for 5 minutes (or a minute or...) before deciding whether to resume.
EASY SUBSTITUTES
Frozen Greek Yogurt, for ice cream. Pretty good.
"Cracker Crisp" for potato chips. From over a 1000 calories to 400.
I use Detour bars, with sugar alcohol that the body does not react to. Pretty good.
4 slices of an apple and 10 almonds - Satisfying for me.
Avocado - High fat, but the good kind. Very satisfying.
Beans (not the sugary stuff) are very filling and long lasting.
A hard boiled egg.
HG Hot Couple: Ice Cream Float: 12 oz can of a diet soda, 1/2 cup fat-free vanilla
ice cream, 100 calories.
