GEE, I DON'T SEEM TO BE MAKING ANY PROGRESS...

When one does a "straight ahead", linear activity, one makes progress proportional to one's effort and time.

However, in activities that are more powerful and impactful, there tends to be a "progression curve" that is similar to the traditional learning curve, though at times much more explosive on the upside.

In the traditional learning curve, we at first often gather some new words that are useful in the area, so it seems we are making no progress in learning the subject - but without the words and clear distinctions we could not move forward nearly as well.  So our graph shows lots of effort and no accumulation of the ability to operate well in the subject area - the curve is flat.

But then there is a little increase in pace as we get more into the subject matter, but still the curve looks pretty flat and unproductive.  Then we learn more and more, and things come together at a slightly better pace...and eventually we get to the point where we gain facility and start progressing rapidly in our ability to use the subject - and one can see the accelerating upwardness of the curve.

It makes some sense, without the knowledge of the progression curve, to think that things are progressing so slowly and to predict that things will continue going slowly - and that you might never see much for your efforts.

WRONG!   There is much more to it than that.  One's faith in being able to reach an enduring happiness is logically justified, one's you understand how it all comes together.

THE MORE COMPLICATED, THE MORE THE "SYNERGY"

Synergy:  The interaction of two or more agents, forces, or factors so that their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects.

The common phrase to describe synergy is that an effect is created where "the whole is greater than the sum of the parts".  Or "2 + 2 = 5".   (I discuss it in a manufacturing concern in Marginal Returns).

In economics, this refers to the effect of putting together a group of people to produce "efficiencies of scale", where the people are able to produce far more than they could have, added all together, produced separately.

In human growth potential, people who are dilettantes in many subjects make very little progress and give the practice a bad name as engaging in unproductive activities.  But those activities have huge potential if carried through to the proper level of expertise.

AN EXAMPLE OF SYNERGY

Learning how to talk to oneself to handle/disappear fears:

1.  Not only helps one to feel better psychologically,
2.  But it also helps to have fears not get in the way when coupled with relationship knowledge, allowing one to have harmony and to avoid flare-ups in relationships and
3.  When coupled with productivity techniques allow one to be tremendously effective in making money, and.
4.  The amygdala starts to feel more secure as the brain is rewired while the left prefrontal cortex that screens out non-sensical thoughts gets more developed and the ability to experience happiness goes up, as it becomes virtually automatic and easy to accept and appreciate all of life...
5.  And then one's sugar metabolism starts to function better since the body doesn't have to pull resources away from natural, healthy functions to handle false emergencies - and the chemicals in the body start to normalize...and then weight starts to drop...and the immune system improves...and
6.  One also sleeps better, which gives one more energy, and the feeling of having more energy provides more confidence, which in turn enables one to handle undesired outcomes much better to produce happiness regardless....and
7.  Weight declines as the need to eat to offset sleep loss is diminished plus the craving for sweets drops when one is more rested and also when one is in a higher mood and doesn't need to self-medicate....
8.  The increased energy causes fewer undones and working at something seems easier and the more organized cleaner home has one feeling good about that...

THE CURVE STARTS TO TAKE OFF

We stop stumbling and bumbling like we typically would do on the earlier parts of the learning curve.

We gain an ability to actually apply things and to make them work!

Many things become a habit, needing no additional thought or effort or learning in order to get results.  Results just happen.

Even the brain gets rewired, so there is now less resistance and less negatives coming out and more positives going in.

We reach that special point where positive momentum forward just happens.

AND ALL OF A SUDDEN WE REALIZE THINGS ARE EFFORTLESSLY GOING VERY WELL!

It is so beautiful when it all comes together.

All the pieces reinforce the other pieces.

Habits have been formed, habits that really work!  Wisdom seems to be readily available.

Decisions are so much better, resulting in fewer undesired outcomes and more of what we want.

Even what goes wrong is sluffed off and what is good is accentuated so much that the shift to the positive seems to have exploded all of a sudden!

Confidence soars!  We know we can handle it all.

And life is so much easier to appreciate!

Our happiness level is far greater than we had dared hope.

And all that work and all the falling down and getting up again has been more than totally worth it!

AND WE CAN CREATE AN UPWARD, PROGRESSIVE SPIRAL!

Since everything occurs in a cause-effect chain, we'll often see that a progression curve will "fuel" itself into causing the next progression, such that we have, instead of one individual growth curve, an upward, self-fueling spiral.

That is, of course, the best!
