THE EFFECTS OF STRESS
IT AIN'T WORTH IT - A COST YOU DON'T WANT TO PAY

87% of physical ailments are from toxic thoughts.

99% of mental health effects are from toxic thoughts.

Don't poo-poo this.  It won't just work itself out ok in the long run...or  the short run!

My question is "how can I get you to really, really 'get' this?"  It is so incredibly vital for you be knowledgeable about this and to act on this as soon as you can get started.

WHAT BALANCE DO YOU CHOOSE?

How much does this destroy your body and your peace of mind and happiness?
There is no doubt that it creates the greatest effect on your quality of life, yet most people think they can "get away with or get away with that", but they are wrong.

You continue to create strain on the body and unpleasantness for the mind and you cheat yourself out of life.

Yes, you can achieve more, you think, by allowing extra stress as the price for success.  But even then you are fooling yourself.  Your productivity will rise, your satisfaction with life will multiply, and you'll experience life very differently.

It can be done.  Follow the recommendations and information on this site, including the resources recommended, and you can create a "both/and" instead of an "either/or" with regard to having peace AND success.

THE ROAD TO SYNDROME X, AND A SHORTER, LOWER QUALITY LIFE

Excess stress, common to every single person reading this, causes your body and mind to "go crazy" and malfunction.  Once the process is habitualized and overdone we develop syndromes that cause us to

1.  Retain extra weight (regardless of eating and exercising, break this and you'll
    lose weight more easily),
2.  Have cravings we no longer have the "will" to resist (change the basis for this
    and the "willpower" returns!)
3.  Shorten our lives and lose our memory
4.  Create inflammation and lots of things that lower our quality of life
5.  Create a form of exhaustion that undermines life

1/3 of the population of the United States has Syndrome X (metabolic syndrome), where elevated cortisol decreases cell sensitivity to insulin - causing insulin resistance and a craving for what worsens it (sugar and processed carbohydrates) - leading eventually to diabetes and/or cardiac disorders, among others.  Cortisol is a good chemical in appropriate amounts, but when stress causes it to be elevated all hell breaks loose - and life has an underlying drag on it, taking away most of the zest.  People become desperate for relief, distraction, getting their chemicals back up so they feel better, and then they go into a spiral, feeding on itself.

THE STAGES OF STRESS

Suitable stress is fine.

Repeated stress is not.

Stage I.    Stress alarms.

Do things that trigger stress often, get a prolonged release of adrenaline.  Ongoing negatives:  Stressful situations, time squeezes, negative thoughts.

Stage II.   Resistance

Endocrine system stays revved up.  Cortisol remains elevated.  Sleep disturbances, unable to regulate cortisol and excess cortisol happens.  DHEA, the youth/strength hormone becomes inadequate. Appetite is stimulated, break down of tissue into glucose in exercise, excess sugar intake converted to fat., insulin sensitivity decreases (diabetes starts), sex hormones decrease, memory loss, impairs serotonin and dopamine (so don't feel good, starts depressive potential), bone loss, decreased immune system, cholesterol up, blood pressure up, fatigue, diabetes.

Stage III.  Exhaustion

Body finally breaks down, adrenal exhaustion (feel tired), burn out mentally, physically, emotionally, develop autoimmune diseases, digestive problems, psychiatric disorders, overmedicate, desperate for settling anxiety.

AT WHICH STAGE WILL YOU STOP?

While a smaller number reach exhaustion, even that number is sizable.  An estimated one third of the population in the US has "metabolic syndrome", with high blood pressure, fat around the waist, high cholesterol, diabetes or pre-diabetes, and the other symptoms above.  And last but not least is the effect of quicker cellular division and the opportunity to have the process go awry (cancer) - and the definite loss of telomere length, which determines how long someone will live and how they age.

Review, in the appendix, below, the process if you wish, identify the costs and effects on your body - and then make your choice, your decision...for life.

It's your life, choose well!

MY CHOICE IS...

APPENDIX: THE PROCESS, THE COSTS

DIAGRAM: THE PROCESS, THE CYCLE:

Overall effect:

Stress goes up -->:

--> Productivity ↓ --> Stress ↑
--> Life is harder --> Quality of life ↓
--> Toxic chemicals in body rise --> Immune response ↓, Body damage ↑
           --> Don’t feel as good --> Stress ↑
           --> Body less able to respond well to stress --> Stress ↑
           --> Notice stress and become concerned --> Stress ↑
--> Thinking ability ↓, Memory ↓

THE COST OF THE STRESS IS:

Stated another way,

1)  Physiological

    a)  Short term stressing of body with long term toxic chemicals
    b) Long term deterioration of the ability for the body to be balanced in its
        reactions to physical occurrences (disease, etc.) in an effective way.
    c) Long term damage to the physical body itself, so we function poorly, have
        less energy, don't "feel" as good as we should, often dying early or having
        more years of poor quality of life.

2)  Psychological

    a) The feeling of well-being is lost for the moment and our body/mind
        memory remembers it as a background "something is wrong" feeling.
    b)  The quality of life is lower as we are not experiencing what is good about
         life.
    c)   For most people, there is a "fog" of lower functioning, a kind of mild
         depression.

3)  Productivity

    a)  We get less done and feel less good about what is done.
    b)  We seek distraction, so we spend time trying not to be anxious, where
         we could have used our time in something of more value or pleasure.
         Often leads to addictive behaviors and practices that steal our lives from
         us.

THE BODY EFFECT IS...

     We brace to fight or flee.
     The Body/Brain:
           Turns off the digestion system, as it is not needed at the time
           Activates adrenaline to act decisively
           Activates the big muscles (to run)
           Tenses the body (in readiness)
           Activates the mind to be more alert and to focus on one thing
                Shuts down thinking brain, less able to really think broadly, as it is set
                     for the short term and to intensely handle one key danger).

#1 cause of high blood pressure and of many other fatal diseases is stress.  The key source of relief is relaxation/awareness techniques, returning blood pressure to normal in as little as one day.   Maintaining it through strictly physical strategies can take as little as 9 minutes/day.
