THE BELIEFS PROCESSES
ACQUIRING BELIEFS, CORRECTING THEM, INSTALLING THEM

(Diagrams first, then the discussion...)

FIRST, THE ACQUISITION OF BELIEFS IN A WILLY NILLY WAY...

→               Beliefs                →   Apply beliefs  →  Get results

                                                      1. "This is how things work."
                                                      2.  What to do to get a result.

A belief is a "wired in" "truth" that if "x" occurs, then the best response is "y".  But if we notice actual results, when we are old enough to be rational and to verify facts, we may find that we don't get "y" but instead get some undesired result.  If we don't revise our "truth" to the actual truth, we are, essentially, screwing ourselves and our lives!

Note that the process "to get a result", identified above, includes the process whereby a belief causes an emotion, which is a mechanical device to get us into motion (ordinarily).  Emotions are also "results" in that we "feel" them and experience a negative or a positive valence (value), which colors the very experience of life and how we feel about it.

THEN WE USE THEM TO GET RESULTS

Bad beliefs       -->      Poor results    = A SIGN!!!! [That you should change the belief!

(Duh!)]

It doesn't work to fail to correct what doesn't work, but many people do that instead of Living The Life Of A Life Champion.   (And one reason they don't spend the time to correct their beliefs is that they are so busy fixing and reacting to the poor results they are getting because of the poor beliefs!)

THEN WE CORRECT WHAT IS ERRONEOUS (Or passively continue to get less than desirable results.)

The Scientific Redesign Process (although it is YOUR belief, pretend as if you are an objective scientist)

Step #1.  Notice the result (this is called "awareness", which is always the necessary first step)

     1A.  "There is a problem"  (I didn't get the result I wanted)
1B.  Define the details of the problem and of the belief (and how it was wrong or
                caused the problem)
            1. State the belief completely, all the way through to the consequences,
                   specifically

Step #2.  What needs to be refined to make this "workable"?

2A.  What is "false" or "not in reality"?
2B.  Rewrite to what is the "truth" or "reality"
            1.  Restate (and/or comment) the old beliefs into reality-based beliefs and/or
                    corrected statements.
            2.  Verify if the new "belief" (hypothesis) is valid. (Using support as needed -
                    preferably often)
                 a. Premise it is based on is valid.
                 b. The logic is valid
3,.  Revise and refine as you go (seek feedback since not likely to be perfect
                     the first time)

The Installation Process (See also The Affirmations Completion Process - see the checklist to verify and measure if you are complete.)

Step #1.  Set it up so the new beliefs are referenceable (accessible), including any supporting statements.
Step #2.  Practice the statements (which is often called "affirming" them; actually it is "making firm").

That's it.  Pretty simple!  Very doable!  (Remember perfection doesn't happen instantly, so you'll have to refine and rework in many cases whatever you create.)

THE DISCUSSION

COMPLETION, TIME, AND SUFFICIENCY

We shan't settle for mediocrity or incompleteness.  We "must", if we are to get what we want from life, get to the point of awareness called "Sufficient Knowing", as everything before that level of knowing is either partial and/or not workable.  To do this we need to commit to Completion ("What we do not complete, we are doomed to repeat.").  Test this statement out in your life.  Are the same problems occurring even though you've "tried" to solve them?  If so, you obviously failed to complete.  In real life, as Yoda advised "Do or do not. There is no try.")  Without these as our standards, we cannot achieve success in anything in life and in life itself.

Don't stop short, as this is the greatest and most important facilitator of a good life that there is!  For most people this process will take more than 200 hours - and it must be in writing.

THE MECHANICS OF THE PROCESS

Various forms are available in the Belief Processing Forms Directory And Links page, but I would recommend that you use "The Primary Forms To Use".   Review the forms available and see which will work for you.

The ABCDEF Rational Analysis Forms are the "ultimate" version, but some people may prefer the simplified two column approach in Converting From The Lower To The Higher Conversation Column Worksheet - Simple (see the filled in examples, linking from the directory above).

The ABCDEF forms lead you through the process of the "re-forming" of beliefs.  Follow the steps listed in the processes above in this section, making sure that you get feedback and inputs from someone else - which is why this is best done in a computer, so that you can attach the documents to an email.

To make the new beliefs accessible and referenceable you may have to transfer them, including any supporting statements (which explain some of why the new beliefs are true), from the worksheets to some new sheets that you can read from and recite from, probably keeping them in your Reminders Notebook.  Some people may prefer to organize by setting up The Beliefs Workbook - Organization For The Vital Completion Of Your Beliefs

IT IS GOOD TO FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF AND GET A "FEEL" FOR WHAT IS INVOLVED

Just as with travelers fresh to a new city, it is a good idea to get an overview understanding and a map.

Look at the overview afforded by Using The Rational Analysis Super-Form - "Perfecting" The Skill.

A master write-up that is also useful is Reconstructing Your Belief System Step By Step - Finishing 'The Job', For Happiness.

And look at the basic strategy, at least, Re-Forming The Thought "Sentences" - Turning Them Into Being Empowering.

Since we are involved in changing beliefs, it is helpful to alter one's viewpoint about oneself by creating My Positives Portfolio.   The use of the grounding process also creates a major shift, one that gives more strength to the new better beliefs:  The Power Of Grounding Oneself - Daily!
